A two-state system is a quantum mechanical system that is characterized by having two eigenstates of slightly different energies. This system, while simple, has a number of fascinating features, including non-trivial time dependance. It is also, at best, an approximation to reality.

I am a trans man and a graduate student* in astroparticle physics at Fancypants U., and I find the two state system to have a humorous analogy to the dominant gender system in European-derived cultures. This is a blog of things I find interesting in the worlds of physics and gender.

*Among the other things I am, in vaguely descending order of importance: a Christian, a Yankees fan, white, a teacher, feminist-oriented and anti-oppression, a knitter, a cat-lover, a bike commuter, a baker, a PK, a sf/f fan, a NYT addict, etc.
